Allergens

Record which of the 14 major allergens apply to each dish and view the results as a matrix or cards.

Allergen Management is where you build and maintain allergen information for every dish or product. Each item can be tagged with any of the 14 major allergens, and the results are viewable as an at-a-glance matrix or individual cards. Find it in the sidebar under Production → Allergens. Available if the Allergens module is on for your account.

If you also use Menus, every dish on a menu shows up here automatically, so this matrix always covers your whole offering. See Items from your menus below.

Adding a menu item

  1. Select Add Menu Item in the top-right corner.
  2. Enter the Menu Item Name *.
  3. Optionally enter a Price and Notes (optional).
  4. Under Select Allergens, tap or click each allergen tile that applies. Active allergens are highlighted in amber.
    • If Cereals with Gluten is ticked, an extra field appears — enter which cereals (e.g. wheat, barley, rye).
    • If Tree Nuts is ticked, enter which nuts (e.g. almonds, cashews, walnuts).
    • When an allergen is ticked, a Free-from available option appears beneath it. Tick it if you can serve the dish with that allergen removed (e.g. a gluten-free version).
  5. A summary at the bottom confirms how many allergens are selected, or confirms none of the 14 apply.
  6. Select Add Menu Item to save.

The 14 allergens available are: Celery, Cereals with Gluten, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Soya, and Sulphites.

Editing or deleting a menu item

  • In Matrix view: hover a row and select the pen icon to open the Edit Menu Item panel.
  • In Cards view: each card’s menu offers Edit and Delete options.
  • In the Edit Menu Item panel, update the name, price, notes, or allergen selections, then click Save Changes.
  • Deleting asks for confirmation; this action cannot be undone.

Switching between Matrix and Cards view

Use the ⋯ overflow menu in the top-right and select Matrix view or Cards view.

  • Matrix view (default on desktop) — all dishes as rows, all 14 allergens as columns. A filled dot (●) means the dish contains that allergen; a half dot (◐) means it contains it but a free-from alternative is available.
  • Cards view (default on mobile) — each dish as its own card listing its allergens, with any “free-from available” options shown as green chips.

Export the matrix

In Matrix view, click Export PDF to download the full allergen matrix — useful for staff reference or to hand to an EHO inspector.

Items from your menus

If the Menus module is on, every dish on a menu appears here automatically, grouped into bands by menu and category, so this single matrix (and its PDF) covers everything.

  • A row of filter pills appears above the matrix: All, any standalone dishes under Unplaced, and one pill per menu. Use them to narrow the view.
  • Dishes that live on a menu are shown here read-only — editing one takes you to that menu’s editor (in Cards view the card offers Open menu). Standalone dishes you add on this page stay fully editable here.
