Mass Balance

Reconcile how much of an intake batch was received versus how much has been allocated to products, to spot discrepancies.

Updated 30 May 2026

Table of contents

Mass Balance shows the full record for one intake batch. It shows how much came in, what each product used, and what should remain. Use it to account for a batch of meat, ingredients, or packaging. You can also use it to investigate an unexplained stock discrepancy.

How to open Mass Balance

Mass Balance is not a standalone page in the sidebar. You reach it from an individual intake record:

  1. Open an intake record (Meat, Ingredient, or Packaging) from the Production section.
  2. On the intake detail page, select the Mass Balance button in the page header.

The page title shows the stock item name. To return to the original intake record, select Intake Details from the ⋯ overflow menu.

What you see

The Stock Balance card shows three sections:

  • Intake: the total weight or quantity received for this batch.
  • Allocations: one row per product that used this batch, showing the product name, portions produced, the amount consumed, and the percentage of the total intake that represents. If no products have been linked yet, this section shows No allocations yet.
  • Remaining: what is left after all allocations are subtracted. Green means unallocated stock is still on hand, as expected. If the used amount is more than the received amount, a red Variance appears. Investigate this variance.
